ABC Creative Music & Glasgow Caledonian University launch survey on Attitudes and Practice of Creativity in Music Education

As part of a pilot research project on creativity in music education (supported by Creative Scotland/Youth Music Initiative) music education company ABC Creative Music and Glasgow Caledonian University are running a survey on practice and attitudes around Creativity in Music Education.

Tom Bancroft, jazz musician and co-founder of ABC Creative Music says:

"At ABC we have been developing and delivering creative music education programmes for over 20 years. We are changing direction and wish to share what we have learnt, and explore the potential role for creativity across the music education spectrum as well as understanding the current music-creativity-reality out there. This survey aims to find out what is actually going on in the music education world, what creativity-based approaches educators use across different sectors, and what barriers are preventing more creativity from happening. We want to know more about the attitudes around the role creativity is and should be playing in music education. It would be really valuable for us if any music educator answers the survey whether or not they currently use creativity-based approaches in their teaching."

Other parts of the pilot involve ABC working with music education organisations Tinderbox and Oi Musica in developing their creativity-based practice, trialling creativity-based approaches with instrumental instructors in schools and offering free creativity-based CPD for all music educators on 19th October in Edinburgh, 8th November in Inverness, and 10th November in Glasgow. More info and booking go here.  ABC and Glasgow Caledonian will be presenting the results of the survey, along with other elements of the pilot at a mini-conference at Glasgow Caledonian University on January 15th  as well as an online mini-conference on a January 25th.
